Frequently Asked Questions

Who can verify attendees at an event?

Anyone the host trusts. The host chooses who can verify guests on their behalf — that's all that's required. However, verifying someone who hasn't actually met the testing requirements defeats the purpose of Green Band and puts everyone at risk.

How does Green Band work at an event?

Guests check in at the event. If they are verified green, the host (or their designated check-in person) gives them a green band for the evening. If a guest is not verified green — or chooses not to check in — they do not receive a band. It's up to other attendees to decide how they engage with someone who isn't wearing a green band.

How does this build trust over time?

When a host sees that someone has attended previous Green Banded events, they know that other hosts have already verified that person's results. Each event adds another layer of accountability across the community.

Green Band Trust Network — verified members connected through events

Green lines show verified trust connections between members and hosts. The red dashed lines show an unverified member who has not yet earned trust in the network.

Can I verify someone outside of an event?

Yes. You can share your test results directly with another member through the app — no event required. This is useful for verifying each other before a date or personal meetup.

How does the testing window work for events?

Each host sets a testing window for their event, ranging from 15 to 90 days. When someone RSVPs, their results are evaluated against the event date (not today's date).

Example: If your event is 30 days away and you require a 60-day testing window, a guest's results will show green as long as their test date is within 60 days of the event date.

What if someone's results are expired?

As a host, you have two options:

  1. Ask the guest to retest before the event so they fall within the required window.
  2. Allow them to attend without a green band.

If they attend without a band, your other guests can decide for themselves how — or whether — to engage with that person.

Do I still check in someone who isn't green?

Yes. You should still check them in because they may interact with other guests at the event, and that attendance record matters for contact tracing.

How does this affect a host's score?

When you check in someone who is not green, it slightly lowers your host rating for that event. For example, if 9 out of 10 guests were green, your host score for that event is 90%.

This means that asking a host — even one who's a friend — to let you in when you don't meet the requirements has a real impact on their reputation. It's designed to make people think twice before asking for that favor.

What is a Trust Score?

Every member has a Trust Score — a number the system calculates based on your overall participation and accountability within the Green Band community. It reflects how reliable you are as a member or host.

Factors that influence your Trust Score:

Your Trust Score helps hosts and other members quickly gauge how seriously you take the verification process. A higher score means the community can place more confidence in you — whether you're verifying guests, hosting events, or connecting with someone one-on-one.
